Tips From the Public and Detective Work Lead to the Arrest of Road Rage Suspect

On April 29, 2021, YCSO detectives arrested 70-year-old Erik Engdahl in connection with a road rage incident that occurred on Walker Road near the South Shore entrance to Lynx Lake in March.
The incident occurred on March 19th, 2021, just after 2 pm, on Walker Road near the South Shore entrance to Lynx Lake, Prescott. The victim called 911 after the driver of another vehicle pulled out a gun and fired at the victim’s car, striking it.
The victim reported he was on Walker Road when they passed the suspect’s slower moving vehicle. The suspect then attempted to rear end the victim who was now trying to create distance from the upset driver. As they approached the entrance to Lynx Lake South Shore, the victim heard a popping sound and realized something hit his car. He looked back and saw the suspect pointing a black handgun outside the driver’s side window of the Toyota 4-Runner. Deputies later confirmed a round struck the back of the victim’s vehicle. The victim sped away and the suspect stopped following him. The suspect’s car was last seen around mile marker 4 on Walker Road. The victim was not injured.
Over the last few week, tips from the public and evidence obtained during the investigation allowed detectives to identify Engdahl as the driver of the vehicle that shot at another vehicle last month. The investigation revealed the vehicle’s appearance was changed since the incident and was moved to a home in Vegas in an apparent attempt to prevent law enforcement from connecting him to the incident. Investigators served two warrants, one at a home in Vegas and the other at a home here in Prescott. They seized his vehicle along with firearms, ammunition, vehicle accessories and other evidence that placed Engdahl in the area the day of the shooting.
“This is another example of dedication and perseverance of Sheriff’s deputies to bring justice to a violent offender and bringing peace to the victim. I’m grateful for the public’s help and our investigator’s hard work and determination to bring this case to a close,” said Sheriff David Rhodes, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
Engdahl was booked on charges including Attempted Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Endangerment and Criminal Damage.
