Sparklight Business recently completed construction on a fiber-optic network that will provide fast and reliable high-speed internet service to students and teachers at Crown King School in Crown King, Arizona.
This network is part of a larger project with the Yavapai County Education Service Agency (YCESA) to build a fiber-optic Wide Area Network (WAN) with Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) that will deliver high-speed internet to more than 72 schools and libraries and 100 businesses within Yavapai County. The Crown King portion of this initiative will provide internet to Crown King School, which prior to Sparklight’s partnership with YCESA, had access to just 5 Mbps internet service – a speed well below FCC bandwidth recommendations for schools and libraries.
Stan Goligoski, Executive Director of Yavapai County School Superintendent’s Office said that Sparklight’s new network not only provides high-speed internet connectivity for students and businesses in the rural and hard to service area of Crown King, but has also allowed for improved health and safety by enabling the capability for telehealth as well as the use of body cameras by local law enforcement – both reliant on high-speed broadband service.
“Sparklight stepped up and helped out our schools and libraries by bringing a fiber-optic network to this area through federal and state funding, as well as their own funding, giving students and community members access to substantial high-speed broadband service,” Goligoski said.
In addition to creating the opportunity for all schools and libraries to obtain high-speed internet access, the cost of the service has also been greatly reduced. Goligoski says that by working with Sparklight Business, the cost for internet access for schools and libraries in Yavapai County has been reduced, on average, by nearly 87 percent.
“Although this is just one step in our project with the Yavapai County Education Service Agency, it’s amazing to see the impact Sparklight Business has already had on students and teachers in Crown King,” said Chris Boone, Sparklight Senior Vice President of Business Services and Emerging Markets. “Now, more than ever, seamless connectivity is critical in keeping our customers connected to the essentials like work and school. We look forward to continuing our effort to eliminate the digital divide for students and businesses in Yavapai County.”
