Single Vehicle Collision Closes S.R. 89

On 04/13/2021 at approximately 5:04 pm Chino Valley Officers responded to a single-vehicle collision on S.R. 89 near Road 3 ½ North.

Through investigation officers determined a green 1993 Chevrolet Pickup, being driven by a 19-year-old from Paulden, AZ, was travelling northbound on S.R. 89. As the truck was approaching Road 3 ½ north, the driver reportedly reached for something and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway to the right, at which time the driver overcorrected and re-entered the roadway. The vehicle then veered across southbound lanes and off the roadway to the left. The vehicle struck a power utility pole with the passenger side of the vehicle and came to rest. There were two passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision, a 20-year-old and a 17-year-old, both from Paulden, AZ. The 17-year-old was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA).

All three involved in the collision were transported. Two by ground transport with minor injuries and the 17-year-old was airlifted with serious injuries.  The involved vehicle sustained substantial damage, as well as the power utility pole. The roadway was reopened at approximately 6:25 pm. Preliminary investigation revealed speed and intoxication are possible contributing factors in the crash. At this time, the investigation is on-going and charges have not been filed.

We thank motorists for their understanding and patience while the roadway was closed and detours were provided. We also want to thank our partnering agencies for their assistance, including the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority, LifeLine, The Arizona Department of Transportation, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Department, and APS.
