Badgers Soccer Beats Buckeye 3-2

Prescott High School Sports Roundup

Varsity Boys Soccer

The boys soccer team played their final regular season game at home and beat a very good Buckeye Hawks team 3-2 Wednesday evening.

Buckeye was ranked #9 coming into this game, while the #1 Badgers were unbeaten and at the top of Division 4. It was senior night, and it turned out to be the seniors who did what the home team needed to get the win.

The Badgers led 1-0 in the first half on a goal by Aldo Munoz. The lead held up thanks in part to  goalkeeper Lance Scalabrine.

The second half heated up with the Hawks eventually tying the score 2-2 midway through the period. Before that would happen, Will Uniacke, scored earlier to put the Badgers up 2-0.

Jack Bruce, one of the 12 seniors, came up with the game winning goal. It was an exciting way for senior night to come to an end.

Coach Phil Reid said, “We had a challenging game. The guys should have played a little bit more disciplined. It is tough games like these that brings teams together. We put it together later on the game and we came away with the win.”

The Badgers (9-0) will travel to Lee Williams on Wednesday at 6:00 pm. Reid added, “ Next we have to look toward Lee Williams. They are a pretty good team, and winning that game will allow us to win the region. We will have to take this game very seriously, so our focus and attention is all towards that next game.” Buckeye drops to (8-2).

Varsity Boys Basketball

The Badgers came back strong after a tough loss the night before, with a 90-70 win over the Peoria Panthers, last night in the Badgers Dome.

Jason Parent and Milap Owens combined for 57 points, as the Badgers played a complete game. Parent said, “We had a lot more energy tonight and we just wanted to bounce back after losing two in a row.”

Owens, “This was a must win for us because we want to make the playoffs. Felt good getting the win and we just have to finish the season off strong.”

After scoring just 35 points the night before versus Coconino, the Badgers behind Parent and Owens kept getting the ball in the basket. It was a tight first quarter, evenly played.

Coach Travis Stedman said, “That was a big win for us. Kudos to our kids, they were insync all night.” When asked about the two high scorers of the game, Stedman said, “Jason and Milap know whats at stake and that is why they are our captains. They both played great tonight.”

Despite the losing record, Peoria (5-9) was ranked #16 coming in due to their tough schedule. Prescott improves to (7-4), and will have a third attempt at playing the Mingus Marauders at home on Thursday. The previous two were postponed due to the big snow in Prescott and Covid concerns at Mingus.
