Prescott High School Sports Roundup: Badgers Bite Cobras Early in 61-48 Win

Varsity Boys Basketball

The Prescott Badgers came back home after a tough three point loss at Coconino, and rebounded nicely with a 61-48 win in the Badger Dome.

Jason Parent came out and set the tone, knocking down four baskets in each of the first two quarters, accounting for 19 of the Badgers 36 first half points.

Coach Travis Stedman said, “This was a good night for us, especially after the close loss the night before at Coconino. I would have liked to have seen us play a little more consistent after we built a big lead early, but it is a plus for our game Monday against Mingus.”

Prescott jumped on  the Cobras early and built a 13 point lead after one. Cactus, coming off a 70-37 win over Youngker the night before, was able to get things going in the second quarter. Freshman center 6’9’’ Brad Henige along with junior Rob Jenkins, made their impacts felt as Cactus was able to get on track, although still trailing 36-24 at the break.

Once again the second half was played evenly, but even though the Cobras were hanging around on the scoreboard, they just could not get the shots they needed to drop, as the Badgers kept the distance they needed to secure the double digit win.

Along with Parent, Prescott received point production from Milap Owens, who scored 14 and Scooter Schwartz, who came off the bench to score 10.

The Badgers improve to (5-2) on the season and will host Mingus on Monday night at 7:00pm. Cactus falls to (3-5).
