Citizens Tax Committee to Host Noel Campbell

The Citizen’s Tax Committee (CTC) has announced that former State Representative, Noel  Campbell, will be the featured speaker at their upcoming monthly meeting on Wednesday,  January 13th,  at the Rowle P. Simmons Adult Center, in Prescott,  starting at 1 pm.   Mr.  Campbell is expected to share his views on the top issues facing Prescott in the coming  year,  with particular reference to managed growth and preserving Prescott’s scenic assets. The meeting  is free and open to the public.

The Citizens Tax Committee is one of Prescott’s oldest  and most venerable civic organizations.  Since its founding in 1977,  it has served as a taxpayer advocate, promoted fiscal accountability in local government, and been a focal point for opposition to  wasteful government spending and excessive debt.  Over the years a number of local political and civic leaders have been associated with the organization .

Although CTC does not endorse candidates or play a direct role in partisan elections, they have  weighed in on local tax and spending issues with high profile voter education campaigns on ballot initiatives such as school bonds and budget overrides and funding levels for  Arizona’s flawed Public Safety Personnel Retirement System.  In recent months, CTC has helped raise public awareness about the expensive and environmentally unsound Verde Connect project.

The past year has been a productive one for CTC,  with members and friends increasing their representation on local elected bodies and commissions.  Recent elections have placed members and supporters on the County Board of Supervisors, the Prescott City Council,  the Prescott Valley Town Council,  the Yavapai College Governing Board and the Prescott Unified School District Governing Board.  Others have gained appointment to various boards and commissions and hold key positions at political clubs throughout the county. CTC continues to remain a “thought leader” in the community and exercises an outsize influence on public policy and the outcome of key issues of public concern.

Former Rep Noel Campbell’s appearance at  CTC’s January meeting is particularly timely. The popular three term legislator opted not to run for a 4th term this year.  However,  he has remained civically engaged with his support for Save the Dells and his opposition to the construction of a new jail in Prescott.  With a current vacancy on the City Council to be filled in the near future  and the Mayor’s office and three city council seats up for reelection later this year,  Mr. Campbell’s vision for The Way Forward for  Prescott  will be of interest to many.

The Citizens Tax Committee meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 1 pm at the Adult Center,  1280 E Rosser Street,  Prescott, Arizona. This month’s meeting on Wednesday,  January 13th,  is free and members of the public are cordially invited to attend.
