On Tuesday December 29, 2020 at about 10:36 am, an unmarked Prescott Police Department Traffic Enforcement vehicle was involved in a two vehicle collision which resulted in significant injuries to the driver of the other vehicle. The police vehicle was stopped for a red light on Whipple Street at Division Street heading eastbound when a vehicle failed to stop and rear ended the back of the police vehicle. A Green 2008 Hyundai Accent driven by a 32 year old female resident of Prescott failed to control her motor vehicle and collided with the rear end of the police vehicle causing major damage to her vehicle and moderate damage to the police vehicle.
The driver of the Hyundai was found to initially be unresponsive and the Prescott Fire Department and Lifeline ambulance were immediately called to the scene. The driver did regain consciousness and was transported by ambulance to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center and was later transported to a Valley hospital with serious injuries. The officer did not report any injuries from the collision.
Whipple Street was limited to one lane in each direction and the turn lanes were unavailable for approximately two hours while other officers were on scene conducting the investigation. The driver of the Hyundai was found to be responsible for the collision. Impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
