13th Annual Courthouse Christmas Lighting Auction

The event that funds nearly 50 percent of the annual courthouse lighting is live.

The Friends of the Jersey Lilly Saloon launched the 13th annual Courthouse Christmas Lighting Auction on Monday. Auction items will be added through the week but interested parties can now register for and view the silent and live auction at TheFriendsofJLS.

“In accordance with state and local recommendations, we adapted our campaign in 2020 to allow all who wish to participate to do so in the capacity they are most comfortable,” said Jersey Lilly Saloon owner Josh Makrauer. “Bulbs can be purchased online, the silent auction will take place online and people can bid on live auction items at the saloon or online.”

The live auction, available for viewing now, will open for online bidding at 4 p.m. on Nov. 5. Live bidding begins at 6 p.m. with Mayor Greg Mengarelli acting as auctioneer.

The silent auction opens for bidding on Nov. 2 and ends Nov. 9 at 5 p.m.

“We encourage everyone to register now so they don’t miss out on an item they have their eyes on,” Makrauer said. “As always, the community has stepped up and supported our campaign and we have some incredible items for auction.”

The campaign also includes a raffle for a Brad Williams bronze sculpture titled “The High Life,” valued at $15,000, a three-piece 14kt gold tanzanite and diamond set valued at $1,500 donated by Raskin’s Jewelers and set of four Michelin tires, including installation, donated by Prescott Tire Pros. Raffle tickets and bulbs can be purchased at TheFriendsofJLS  or in person at the Jersey Lilly.

The annual courthouse lighting, the centerpiece of Prescott’s Arizona Christmas City events, is organized by the Prescott Downtown Partnership and Prescott Chamber of Commerce. Funded in part by both organizations and the City of Prescott, the event costs nearly $100,000 annually.

“It is remarkable what this group of 18 volunteers does each year,” said PDP Executive Director MJ Smith. “They shoulder a significant portion of the budget and do it eagerly. In a year when many of our hospitality partners have taken it on the chin, the Jersey Lilly Saloon continuing the tradition speaks to their commitment to the community. We cannot thank them enough for their efforts.”

Prescott Chamber of Commerce CEO Sheri Heiney agreed.

“Without the Friends of the Jersey Lilly auction, the beautiful tradition we know and love would not be the spectacular event that it is,” she said. “These volunteers raise nearly 50 percent of the budget.”

The Jersey Lilly Saloon will accept auction donations through Oct. 29.

Bulbs and raffle tickets can be purchased throughout the season, with the raffle drawing taking place at the Jersey Lilly Lights Out Party at 6 p.m. on Jan. 14.
