Prescott Fire Department receives grant for Lucas Devices

On Tuesday August 25, 2020 Prescott Fire Department was awarded approval by the Prescott City Council to accept grant funding in the amount of $165,524.73 for Lucas Devices. These devices are being funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). The cost to the city to place a Lucas device on all front line Engine Companies will be $16,552.47 which has already been allocated in this year’s budget.

The LUCAS chest compression system helps emergency care teams do what they do best – save lives.  The LUCAS Chest Auto-Compression system provides benefits to cardiac arrest patients by delivering Guideline-consistent, high-quality chest compressions even under difficult conditions and for extended periods of time – helping reduce the risk of injury to caregivers and freeing them up to perform other lifesaving interventions. The device provides firefighters the opportunity to work more efficiently.

Acceptance of the awarded 2019 grant funds will provide the Prescott Fire Department (PFD) with eight (8) Lucas auto-compression devices for all our front line apparatus. Included with the purchase of these eight (8) devices is eight (8) four (4) year warranties and onsite training from the purchasing vendor.  Prescott will be the first agency in north-central Arizona to have this specialized equipment to better serve our citizens.
