Prescott Farmers Market celebrates National Farmers Market Week

Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) will celebrate National Farmers Market Week next week, August 2 – 8, 2020. National Farmers Market Week is a celebration started by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that highlights the important role farmers markets play in the nation’s food system.

Normally, farmers markets across the country recognize National Farmers Market Week with special events and activities celebrating the benefits of farmers markets for farmers, consumers, and the community as a whole. The unique circumstances this year mean that PFM will not hold any special events but encourages people to attend the market and follow along on social media for a week of educational storytelling.

PFM is an authorized issuer of WIC and Senior CSFP coupons through the Arizona Farmers Market Nutrition Program. WIC or CSFP participants can bring their eWIC card or yellow CSFP card to the information booth to receive $30 in coupons. Coupons must be used on Arizona-grown fresh fruits and vegetables. PFM also accepts SNAP/EBT and Pandemic-EBT cards, and doubles those purchases for fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to the Double Up Food Bucks Arizona program.

The first week of August brings many summer seasonal fruits and vegetables to Yavapai County, including squash, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, cucumbers, fresh garbanzo beans, green beans, corn, cabbage, plums, strawberries and blackberries.

Due to the continued risk associated with COVID-19, PFM has implemented safety measures to help protect the health of customers and vendors. These include, but are not limited to, hand-washing stations and booths spaced to allow for physical distancing. PFM highly encourages everyone to wear a mask. Dogs and other pets are not allowed at the market.

As a vital part of the economy, the mission of Prescott Farmers Market is to support and expand local agriculture, cultivate a healthy community and increase access to affordable local food. PFM is a nonprofit organization and a Qualifying Charitable Tax Credit Organization with the State of Arizona.
