On July 22, 2020 at about 1130 am an incident took place in the wooded creek area in the 500 block of Miller Valley Road involving several homeless individuals which escalated into a fight between those individuals.  Officers were dispatched to the area after the victim, a 40 year old Prescott area transient, called 911 and reported that she had been cut by a knife during a fight with another subject.  Officers were in the area and located a subject running from the area of the assault and detained that person.  The suspect was later identified as Andrew Palmer, a 49 year old Prescott area transient, and was taken into custody and interviewed by Detectives regarding his involvement.  The victim was transported by ambulance to the West Campus of the Yavapai Regional Medical Center with a very serious laceration which required surgery.  Several witnesses were interviewed and Palmer was identified as the suspect in this case.  During the investigation it was learned that Palmer was a registered level 2 sex offender showing his last known address in Chino Valley, AZ but has been living as a transient in the Prescott area since 2019.

The suspect was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on one count of Aggravated Assault, other charges are pending related to Sex Offender Registration.  Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact Detective John Hanna at (928) 777-1988.
