Although there are some online news sites for the Prescott area, there aren't many that seem to take advantage of the medium of the internet. Here at Prescott eNews, we know the difference between putting a book or a newspaper online, and using the Internet to its full potential. And we think it's time that a quality news website makes its home in Prescott, Arizona.

How Old Are You?

Ssshhhh...! Don't tell anyone, but we launched our beta site in June, 2007. So, yeah, we're the new kid on the block. Well, at least for this particular site. But, our staff has been designing websites for nearly 10 years, and are also accomplished Photoshop digital artists, writers, photographers and design instructors. What all that means is that just because this particular site is new, it doesn't mean that we don't know what we're doing.

Some students spend their two-week Winter Break just lazing around and chillin'. But, not the Prescott High School's Varsity Wrestling Team . Coach Dan Payne and his team were in El Cajon, California, this weekend, participating in the prestigious El Cajon Invitational .

Fifty-five teams, some from as far away as Oklahoma and Washington State, came to compete in the 37th Annual tournament. This was the first year that Coach Payne has taken his team to the event, and the kids were eager to wrestle.

The tournament started early on Friday morning, and ended late Saturday evening. It was a 64-Man Bracket event, with brackets for both Championship and Consolation rounds. Athletes were awarded trophies for 1st - 8th place.

Paige Payne, Coach Payne's wife, announced the results via email, "Hello, the tournament just ended. Out of 55 teams, PHS took 7th place... Great job, Prescott."

Prescott's team placed higher in the event than any other team from Arizona, with a score of 136. That was good enough to beat out teams from Highland High School (Gilbert), Canyon Del Oro High School (Tucson), Ironwood High School (Glendale) and Boulder Creek (Anthem). (View a list of participating teams here .)

Lake Stevens High School, from the state of Washington, came in first, with 274 points and 12 athletes placing in the top 8 of their individual weight classes. Midwest City High School, from Oklahoma came in second with 257 points and 10 wrestlers that placed in the top 8 of their respective weight classes.

Paige Payne also noted that four wrestlers from Prescott placed in the top eight overall for their weight classes:

Jake Jarvis (215 pounds) - 2nd

Danny Brutinel (heavyweight) - 4th

Max Payne (152 pounds) - 5th

Matt LaMaster (160 pounds) - 7th
