About Us

Here at Prescott eNews, we think there's a lot going on in the Prescott quad-city area. And, yes, we know that bad news happens, but we also know that a lot more good news happens. So, we intend to tell lots of good news, while not ignoring the bad news.

Although there are some online news sites for the Prescott area, there aren't many that seem to take advantage of the medium of the internet. Here at Prescott eNews, we know the difference between putting a book or a newspaper online, and using the Internet to its full potential. And we think it's time that a quality news website makes its home in Prescott, Arizona.

How Old Are You?

Ssshhhh...! Don't tell anyone, but we launched our beta site in June, 2007. So, yeah, we're the new kid on the block. Well, at least for this particular site. But, our staff has been designing websites for nearly 10 years, and are also accomplished Photoshop digital artists, writers, photographers and design instructors. What all that means is that just because this particular site is new, it doesn't mean that we don't know what we're doing.

Total personnel: 646 Crews: 17 crews

Equipment: 38 engines, 14 water tender, 3 dozers Available air support: helicopters and air tankers

Additional Information From Debbie Maneely, Forest Service Public Affairs Specialist

Fire crews worked through the night to prepare the Forest Road 259 north of Crown King for a burnout operation. This burnout will help to meet one of the fire’s suppression objectives of keeping the fire east of Forest Road 259. Additional fire lines were created south of Crown King along Forest Road 192 to Forest Road 711. These roads will be used as control lines to prevent the spread of the fire back into Crown King.

Fire crews face a critical day as fire conditions reach levels creating extreme fire behavior. Humidity recoveries during the evening hours last night will allow humidities to reach levels around 10 percent during the critical fire burning period. Temperatures at the lower elevations of the fire are expected to approach 100 degrees.

Although the fire gained ground yesterday in the Castle Creek Wilderness, lines were holding in the areas around Crown King and the developed areas of Horsethief Basin. Arizona Public Service Company has restored power to Crown King and area communication site. Power will be re-established to Horsethief Basin as soon as fire conditions allow APS to enter the area and replace burned power poles.

Other information

Although the acreage has gone up, that's not ncessarily a reason for dismay, according to the Forest Service. The fire is being guided into the wilderness where there are no structures or people to endanger. At this time, mainly helicopters loaded with fire retardant are being used, planes with slurry are simply not as effective in this type of terrain.

Shelter Information

According to Tracey Keist, the Red Cross is transitioning their Service Center to a Shelter over the 4th of July. The shelter will have beds, food and water and even games for the kids. The shelter is located at:
