About Us

Here at Prescott eNews, we think there's a lot going on in the Prescott quad-city area. And, yes, we know that bad news happens, but we also know that a lot more good news happens. So, we intend to tell lots of good news, while not ignoring the bad news.

Although there are some online news sites for the Prescott area, there aren't many that seem to take advantage of the medium of the internet. Here at Prescott eNews, we know the difference between putting a book or a newspaper online, and using the Internet to its full potential. And we think it's time that a quality news website makes its home in Prescott, Arizona.

How Old Are You?

Ssshhhh...! Don't tell anyone, but we launched our beta site in June, 2007. So, yeah, we're the new kid on the block. Well, at least for this particular site. But, our staff has been designing websites for nearly 10 years, and are also accomplished Photoshop digital artists, writers, photographers and design instructors. What all that means is that just because this particular site is new, it doesn't mean that we don't know what we're doing.

A Great Idea from Tayrn Brown PDF Print E-mail

Taryn Brown, left and Danielle Stephenson, right.
Taryn Brown has a good idea. She wants to raise money for the poor. She’s selling food, snacks and lemonade outside her parents’ garage sale this weekend. The money from her snack sale will benefit Yavapai Food Bank.

I asked her how she got the idea. She said, “I was driving back from San Diego and there’s a lot of old shack houses on the way and the shack houses made you think of it.”

Taryn is selling homemade cookies, banana bread, lemonade and things from Costco. She is charging between 25 cents and one dollar per thing.

I asked her why she chose to give the money to Yavapai Food Bank. She said, “In the paper they said they needed help.” She hopes to raise at least $25 “or a little more than that.” She hopes 30 to 50 people will come each day. She thinks it is important to help others in need.

Taryn says her mom made the lemonade and bought everything. Taryn made the banana bread and cookies. Her mother, Brenda Brown says some of their neighbor children came over because they wanted to help. Her friend Wes Bradstreet is coming over later to help.

Mrs. Brown said that Tayrn “Thought of the idea at Spring Break. She made $6 at a lemonade stand at her grandma and grandpa’s house.”

When I asked Mrs. Brown if she thought it was important she said, “I do. So many of us never feel hungry. We have what we need. But times are tough right now.

Some people don’t have enough food. So yes, I think it is important.”

Tayrn and her mother printed up things from the Yavapai Food Bank website. There was a credit card form for money and a list to sign up for giving money and getting a tax receipt. There was also a list of what food items they always need. Those are:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Canned fruit
  • Fruit juice
  • Soups and stews
  • Dried pasta
  • Spaghetti and sauce
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Cold cereals
  • Crackers
  • Graham crackers
  • Canned tuna
  • Canned meat
  • Peanut butter

And at the holidays they need special things.

Tayrn will be at her parents’ garage sale today from 7 am to 11 am, and Saturday August 2nd from 7 am to 11 am. Their address is 1804 Cedarwood Drive in Prescott.

Taryn thinks that people should help other poor people all over to world but wants to start helping right here. She says, “It’s important to help the poor and people who aren’t as fortunate as we are.”

And I say the food she was selling tasted good!!!
