23 December 2012

Nehring Continues Point Streak, Sixth

Prescott Valley, AZ – The Arizona Sundogs were unable to rebound from an early game deficit against the Denver Cutthroats Saturday night at the Denver Coliseum.

The Sundogs found themselves trailing 2-0, at the end of the first 20 minutes.  Denver's Troy Schwab was credited with an assist as he, setup A.J. Gale with a centering pass from the right wing.  Joel Chouinard came in with a one-timer from the center and caught the net, doubling the Cutthroats lead.

Neither team was successful locating the back of the net during the second period, though it wasn't for a lack of effort.  Arizona came up short as they caught metal and were unable to setup the rebound.  With two in a half minutes left Kevin Petovello was called for hooking and 36 seconds later Denver's Gabriel Beaupre headed to the box also for hooking resulting in 4-4 hockey.

Denver's netminder Kent Patterson held off the Sundogs until Chad Nehring registered a wrister putting Arizona on the board with two minutes left in the final frame.  Arizona pulled David Brown giving them the man advantage for the remaining 1:21.  Gale with a breakaway in the final six seconds scored an empty netter sealing the Cutthroats win over the Sundogs.  Sundogs were 0-3 and Denver was 0-4 on the power play.  Arizona led shots on goal 31-30.  Nehring continues his point streak collecting his sixth tonight.  The Sundogs return home and will host the Bloomington Blaze in a three game series beginning December 28th.
