Prescott YMCA Aquatics Center Reopens Following Renovation

The water slide and activity pool are now open, and the water is great at the James Family Prescott YMCA. The indoor facility, which has served the community since 1998, now features elegant, new pebble-tec finish in the warm water activity pool, a freshly refinished waterslide, and a tune-up for the motors, pumps, and systems that keep everything filtered, heated, and running smoothly. The “baja mini” pebble-tec finish selected for the waterslide pool is more forgiving on the feet, and new non-slip tiles were added to give slide riders more comfort when they enter the water.

“We want our members and guests to have the very best experience when they enjoy our pools and the other amenities available at the Y,” said Damon Olsen, CEO, YMCA of Yavapai County. “The Aquatics Center is a great place to learn how to swim, host a special event, exercise, or just have some fun.”

The Center, located on the corner of Whipple and Division Street in Prescott, is open year-round and features a zero-entry activity pool with waterslide, a wheelchair accessible lap and diving pools, a family changing area, showers, and men’s, and women’s locker rooms. All of the pools are heated to a comfortable temperature.

“Our facilities and programs are available to everyone in the community,” states Lesley Jenkins, Executive Director, James Family Prescott YMCA. “Membership provides access to all of the resources – the Aquatics Center, Fitness Center, Gymnasium, and the terrific resources available outside to include the outdoor track and Airnasium.”

A large portion of the project was funded through a generous donation by the Board of Directors of the Harold James Family Trust: Ronald, Laura, and Ryan James and Jennifer James Martin.

Revenues generated through membership fees also helped to pay the total project costs of approximately $155,000.

“On behalf of our members, guests, employees, volunteers, and Board of Directors, I want to thank the Harold James Family Trust for their generous support of this project, and for their commitment to our organization over the years,” said Olsen.

The water slide is open for use on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. To learn more about the James Family Prescott YMCA and its programs, classes, and events, visit www.prescottymca.org, or call (928) 445-7221.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the James Family Prescott YMCA strengthens the community through programs that emphasize youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y relies on membership and program fees, along with public and private contributions to operate programs and to fund expansion projects. As a member organization, the Y is open to everyone regardless of their ability to pay. An extensive scholarship program ensures access for kids and families who could not otherwise benefit from YMCA programs.
