Top Ten Ranked Soccer Battle Between Yavapai College and Pima Community College Results In Tie

PRESCOTT- Two NJCAA top-ranked soccer programs took the field at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley on Tuesday, October 3rd, as #4 ranked Yavapai College and #7 ranked Pima Community College battled for first place in the ACCAC. However, neither could score as the game ended in a 0-0 tie after two overtimes.

“It’s a postseason game played in early October featuring two of the best teams in the country,” Yavapai College Roughriders soccer head coach Michael Pantalione said. “This is what junior college soccer should be all about, two quality teams, two quality programs. Players on both sides gave it all they got and it was a clean, hard-fought game.”

Both teams had a couple of chances as Pima Community College rolled 26 shots and Yavapai College smacked 17 shots but neither goalkeeper wavered when the ball was close to the net.

Roughriders freshman goalkeeper Tyler Trump played all 110 minutes in goal and picked up ten saves, including some impressive bouts of athleticism with shots-on-goal both on the ground and in the air during overtime to keep the contest tied.

“My mentality coming into this game was just like I need be process oriented,” Trump said. “I didn’t go out chasing a good game, I just focused on what I could do…most of it was just instinct. I wasn’t thinking about it.”

Meanwhile, Pima Community College freshman goalkeeper David Silva also played all 110 minutes and recorded six saves.

In the tie, both Yavapai College and Pima Community College remain tied at the top of the ACCAC conference, a game in front of Arizona Western College.

The Roughriders (12-1-3, 10-1-3 ACCAC) travel to Phoenix College on Thursday, October 5th, for a 7:00 pm matchup. The two teams met earlier in a game that ended in a 1-1 tie.
