The Prescott Badgers softball home opener was a tough one, as the Mingus Marauders beat the Badgers for the second time this week 9-2. The Badgers lost 10-0 in Cottonwood on Tuesday.
The Marauders jumped on Badger pitcher McKynzie Hyslip for three runs in the first inning, all scoring with two outs. After a good second inning, the Marauders broke the game open with timely hitting and aggressive base running. The game was on the brink of a 10 run rule ending, but the Badgers hung tough and finally were able to get the goose egg off the board.
Trailing 9-0, Prescott got their first run in the bottom of the sixth, on a sacrifice fly by Allison Ingram, scoring Maggie Boelts.
The Badgers added one more in their final at bat when Bekah Norris hit a solo homerun.
Mingus improves to (2-0) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (3-0) overall.
Prescott drops to (0-2) in the Grand Canyon Region, and (0-4) overall. The Badgers will look for their first win on the road today, at Higley in Gilbert. Game time is 3:45pm.
