Lady Bears put a damper on Senior Night

Senior Night at Prescott High School did not turned out as planned, as the Bradshaw Mountain Lady Bears beat the Lady Badgers 50-30. It was the third time this season that Bradshaw Mountain had beaten Prescott. Both of the previous games were a lot closer, as the Lady Bears won 38-33 in December, and 47-43 last week in Prescott Valley.

Bradshaw Mountain opened up a 6-0 lead, before the Lady Badgers got on the board with 5:04 left in the opening quarter. Prescott fought back to get within two at 12-10. The second quarter as an entirely different thing. The Bradshaw Mountain Lady Bears took advantage of poor shooting and numerous Prescott turnovers to dominate the quarter, building a commanding sixteen point lead going into the half, 29-13.

Prescott struggled in the third quarter as well, getting a big three point basket by Theresa Gutierrez to pull within 15 at 35-20 to start 4th quarter. Bradshaw Mountain was able to fight off any attempt by the Lady Badgers to come back. Gutierrez scored half of her game high 14 points in the final eight minutes, but Bradshaw kept sinking shots. Prescott missed out on on some points at the free throw line. The Lady Badgers shot 42% from the charity stripe converting on only 9 of 21.

Mica Nellis led Bradshaw Mountain with 13 points, while Rylee Bundrick tossed in 11. As for the Lady Badgers, besides the contribution by Gutierrez, Molly Courtright scored 7 and pulled down 7 rebounds, Abby Chartier finished with 5.

Prescott drops to (3-9) in the Grand Canyon Region and (10-15) overall. The Lady Badgers will travel on Thursday to play Rio Rico (19-7) in a Division 4 playoff game at 6:30pm. Bradshaw Mountain is in a great position for a playoff spot, sits at (8-4) in region, and (15-10) overall. Their playoff opponent has yet to be determined.
