The Prescott Lady Badgers stumbled in the second quarter and it cost them, as the Coconino Lady Panthers downed the home team 40-34 in the Badger Dome.
Both teams started off strong offensively, but things slowed way down for the Lady Badgers in the second quarter. Prescott managed one one bucket, but trailed by only two, at 14-12 with 3:19 left in the second quarter. Coconino went on an 8-0 to end the half to lead 22-12.
Abby Chartier drove the lane for a bucket as the third quarter buzzer sounded to get the Lady Badgers to within six, at 29-23. A key moment in the game came with five minutes left to play, when Chartier was called for her fifth foul, despite having her back turned to the play. Theresa Gutierrez stepped up from the point forward, scoring half of her game high of 14 points in the final frame.
Prescott did make a run as Gutierrez knocked down a midrange jumper to make it 37-30. Molly Courtright bank shot got the home team to within five at 37-32 with 1:55 to play. Turnovers and missed shots ultimatley determined the outcome.
Coconino (8-1) in Grand Canyon Region, (18-5) overall, will face Lee Williams in Kingman, tomorrow at 5:30pm.
The Lady Badgers drop to (2-6) and (9-12). Prescott will host Lee Williams, on Friday at 5:30pm
