Mesquite hands the home team a season ending loss

The Prescott Badgers Badminton team had yet another great season, but it came to an end on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-3 loss to the Mesquite Wildcats. Prior to the match with the Badgers, the Wildcats knocked off Verrado.

Coach Bobbi Yoder had this to say after the match. "I knew going into tonight's match against Mesquite that they were a good program and a little under ranked. I felt like Sunnyslope and Mesquite were the top 2 teams and we were a legitimate #3 or #4 along with Chaparral and then Ironwood in 5th but that is just how the strength of schedule and power point rankings go sometimes. This is definitely a team that we can compete with and any given night come out with a win, tonight just was not our night to get it done. I knew for us to come out on top tonight we needed to come out of the singles either tied 3-3 or up 4-3 because I was confident that we could get 1-2 wins with our doubles teams. Unfortunately it was 4-2 Mesquite after the singles matches were done and we ended up finishing 6-3 on the night."

"These young ladies gave me their all tonight and that is all I can ask from them, it just wasn't our night," Yoder continued. "I can't begin to express how proud I am of these young ladies for how hard they have worked to finish 12-3 overall and the sportsmanship they have displayed to every team we have faced along the way. They are class acts and have represented themselves, their families, this program, PHS and this community with integrity, pride, class, and dignity. I think once the dust settles from tonight's events, these young ladies will be able to look back on this season and appreciate everything they were able to accomplish: Division II Northwest Section Championship, finishing the season in 4th place in Division II and going into the Team State Tournament as a #4 seed, #1 Abby Nelson finishing in 4th place in Division II Singles at the State Tournament and beating some of the better programs that we lost to last year like Sunrise Mountain, Liberty, Chaparral and Cactus. It truly was an amazing season and count myself blessed to be able to coach and work with such amazing student-athletes year after year."
