Badger Baseball Has Five Runners Reach In Extra Innings But None Score in Loss to Lee Williams

PRESCOTT- The Prescott High School baseball team had three runners reach scoring position during extra innings against the Lee Williams Volunteers on Thursday afternoon at home, but failed to execute as the Badgers lost 2-1 in nine innings.

“Very disappointing to go the full nine innings and lose 2-1,” said Badgers' senior Justin Warren, who smacked two singles on the day. “I thought we played well, just didn’t step up at the plate.”

Prescott High School would crack the scoreboard first in the second inning as Joey Christopherson picked up a single, along with a stolen base, and was driven home on a RBI single by Dawson Winslow. Lee Williams would respond in the third inning as Chad Moore reached on a error and later scored on a wild pitch.

That would be it until seventh inning when Prescott High School loaded the bases with nobody out and had a chance to win, but failed to come through. The Badgers would have another chance in the eighth inning, as a runner reached second base after a hit by pitch, but was left at third.

Lee Williams would get their chance to break the deadlock in the ninth inning when Carter Rhodes leadoff with a double. That would be it for Badgers' starter Griffin Hays as Warren came in for relief and allowed a RBI double by Mike Bathauer. In the bottom half of the inning, Matt Bathauer would shut down the Badgers to pick up the win.

“We had multiple chances to win the game and nobody stepped up,” Badger baseball head coach Kent Winslow said after the game. “Don’t step up, sooner or later they probably will.”

Hays takes the hard luck loss for Prescott High School, allowing six hits and two runs-one earned-while striking out four across eight plus innings.

Meanwhile, Matt Bathauer picked up the win for Lee Williams, tossing three innings allowing three hits and one walk while striking out two, after reliving starter Paul Giglio.

The Badgers (4-6, 2-4 Grand Canyon region) hit the road to take on the Higley Knights on Friday at 3:45pm
