Four teams crowned champions at Events Center

The AIA Basketball championship games were held at the Prescott Valley Event Center on Saturday. All four lower seed teams won, with three champions coming in as (5) seeds, along with one (2) seed winning as well. The four games, featuring Division I and II girls and boys came with little drama, as all four games ended with double digit victories. The final game between Alchesay and Gilbert Christian at least provided plenty of fan noise, as the Falcons got within 11 points, trailing 61-50, with 2:50 to play.

The day started off with St. Michael (20-4) avenging their two losses to Rock Point (19-7) in the regular season, by blowing out the Cougars in the first quarter 19-3, and winning by 22.

NFL YET (30-2) took care of the number one seed in The Gregory School (29-2), by outscoring Hawks in all four quarters for a 25 point win.

It was the back to back for Girls' Division II winners Valley Sanders (25-2), as they blew Leading Edge Academy (30-3) out of the water early, ripping three pointers through the nets in the first half to lead 46-14 at the break. Pirates Coach Dorothy Mitchell's team is (55-3) the past two seasons.

The final game of the day saw the home court crowd of Alchesay (33-3) doing what they could to help their Falcons, but the Knights of Gilbert Christian (25-5) proved to much to overcome in a 15 point contest.
