Roughrider Bats Swinging on Saturday

Roughrider Ladies swept their doubleheader on Saturday, and the Baseball team split a pair of games in Henderson, Nevada.

Roughrider Softball

The Roughrider softball team had a dominant performance Saturday in a doubleheader sweep over Pima Community College at Bill Valley Field. YC won the opener 8-3 and took the nightcap, 13-5.  Yavapai improves to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in ACCAC play. Pima falls to 9-5 on the year and 2-4 in the conference standings.

In the opener, Jaya Allen struck out 15  Aztec batters and scattered 3 runs to lead the Roughrider to the 8-3 victory. The sophomore threw the complete game only allowing six hits and three base on balls.

Offensively, the Green and Gold pounded 10 hits, 6 for extra bases. Katelyn Kubitschek was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. Makayla Guerra was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a home run. Neenah Pangilinan was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Mariah Kalamaras was 1 for 2 with a home run.

In the nightcap, the Roughriders hit 4 home runs in route to the run-rule shortened game. Jaydee Boursaw, Brianna Griffiths Kylie Brown and Guerra each left the yard. YC had 17 hits on the game. Kubitschek, Griffiths and Boursaw each had 3 hits. Boursaw now has 37 career home runs, two shy of tying the all-time record of 39 set by Andrea Sotelo. 

In relief, Santana Parra was lights out in the circle to get the victory.

Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, February 13th at Glendale Community College (4-7, 2-2). The twinbill will begin at 1:00 PM.

Roughrider Baseball 

The Roughrider baseball team split a pair of games Saturday in Henderson, Nevada. YC lost the first game of the day to Salt Lake Community College, 11-2 and beat Okangan College in the second game, 8-2. Yavapai is now 4-7 on the young season.

Alex Isola and Tommy Sacco had multiple hits on the day. Isola hit his third home run of the year.

Isola continued his hot hitting going 4 for 5 against Okanagan. YC managed 12 hits on the game. Roberto Cabrera was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Sacco was 1 for 4 with 2 runs batted in.

Jesus Aldaz threw 3 innings to gain the victory striking out 2 batters.

Next up for the Roughrider is their 2018 home opener against South Mountain Community College on Saturday, February 17th. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
