There’s a Sunset Point area repaving project - and it needs it!
Watch for overnight delays in the Sunset Point area. ADOT is repaving a 2 mile section of northbound I-17 from 1 mile from Bumble Bee to the Sunset Point Traffic Interchange. There will be a single lane closure from 6 pm to 6 am tonight through Friday. In addition, the northbound I-17 off-ramp at the Sunset Point Rest Area will be closed from 6 tonight to 6 tomorrow morning. The speed limit is reduced to 45 miles per hour during work hours. Meanwhile, over on Highway 89A between Flagstaff and Oak Creek Canyon, there’s a lane restriction from 7:30 am to 4 pm weekdays due to a road improvement project. The Office of Federal Lands Highway is adding right turn and passing lanes, along with wider slopes along 8 miles between the Vista Point Overlook and JW Powell Boulevard.
Camp Verde gets revitalized
The Town of Camp Verde is receiving a grant award to help with the revitalization of its downtown area. Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials have announced a more than 97 thousand dollar Brownfields Grant Award to Camp Verde. This will be used for an asbestos and lead based paint abatement on the old Library building. The old building is being removed and a new parking lot is being constructed in its place. The abatement will allow the newly constructed library to safely park more patrons and hold more community events. Since it opened last November, the 17 thousand square foot Camp Verde Community Library has seen more than 26 thousand visitors and more than 5 thousand new library cards have been issued. The abatement project is scheduled for completion later this month.
Conservatives can demonstrate, too
A Prescott organization is holding demonstrations in support of President Donald Trump. The Mobilization for Conservatives group gathered in front of the Bulleri Building on Cortez Street yesterday afternoon. They ended up on the corner of Cortez and Gurley Street, just across from where Trump protesters had gathered on the Courthouse Square. Chairwoman Myrna Lieberman explains why the Conservatives group has been formed. Supporter Jim Dutton says it seems like the group’s message is getting across. The demonstrations were first done on February 28th to counter the weekly protest in front of Congressman Paul Gosar’s and Senator John McCain’s offices. The demonstrations will continue every Tuesday afternoon.
