Hanna served on the Prescott Police Department from 1991-1990. Later, he was elected to the Prescott City Council, where he served fromNovember 2009 until March 2012.
Hanna passed away in 2013 at the age of 59.
“I wanted to hold a golf tournament in his honor,” his wife, Sherrie Hanna said. “Two groups that Johnny loved were the Prescott Fire Fighter Charities and also the Prescott Police Explorers, so I wanted to do something to benefit these organizations.”
Now, 4 years later, at 160 golfers, the September 4th Guns ’N’ Hoses Golf John Hanna, Sr. Tournamenthas become one of the largest tournaments at Antelope Hills. Sherrie said that she sells out every year and has to turn people away.
This year with raffle prize and hole sponsorships, Sherrie was able to raise over $6000 to split betweenthe two organizations. She presented the checks at the Prescott City Council Meeting on November 14.
