Prescott Valley Town Council appoints Lucy Leyva to fill vacant seat

The Prescott Valley Town Council on December 21 appointed 22-year resident and business owner Lucy Leyva to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of Council member Roger Kinsinger.

Leyva ran as a write-in candidate in the last local election. She said clear and open communication is critical for the public to understand local issues. As a mother of two teens, activities for young people, such as the proposed YMCA, are a priority, as are other activities for all ages, she said. Leyva said the Council should be conservative in its decisions to not overextend community resources while still building to meet the needs of growth. She wants to see Prescott Valley maintain its small-town atmosphere. Leyva said she wants to be a role model to her children, to other women and small business owners in the area.

“Lucy comes from a strong background of entrepreneurship. She is a long-time Prescott Valley resident and recognizes the need to connect with all citizens. She will be an amazing asset to our already incredible Town Council, and I look forward to her addition to the team,” said Mayor Kell Palguta.

Leyva is expected to take the Oath of Office and be seated as a Council member at a special meeting in conjunction with the Study Session scheduled for January 6, 2023.
