The Quad City Interfaith Council (QCIC) announced the organization’s premier community event, The Celebration of Thanks, will be held again on Nov. 17, 2022.  The event is the faith-based group’s attempt to bring people of all faiths, philosophies, ethnic or other groups together in a spirit of thanksgiving.

The Celebration of Thanks had been an annual event, but was postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic restrictions.  “With the most serious aspects of the pandemic appearing to be behind us the group decided to renew this annual celebration,” according to Bruce Kneeland, the Lead Facilitator for the organization.   The event will be held from 6-8 PM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 150 Fleury St., Prescott, AZ, on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022.

Kneeland adds, “The idea for holding the event on the Thursday just prior to Thanksgiving is designed to help us all get into the spirit of thanksgiving.”  The event consists of musical performances and uplifting readings provided by the members of various religious groups active in the QCIC.  All performances will be done is a spirit of love and are designed to fit the mission of the QCIC which is:  To promote respect, understanding, cooperation and appreciation for the many religious and faith traditions within the Quad City area.  To sponsor interfaith programs, engage in community service projects and inform and educate about community faith events.  In all our efforts we strive to promote human dignity.

The program will begin with a welcome address and invocation provided by Father Irudayaraj (Father Raj) John Britto, Pastor at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  It will be followed by the blowing of the Shofar, an ancient musical horn and a long-standing Jewish tradition provided by Temple B’rith Shalom.   The heart of the program will be about a dozen musical performances, chorale groups, dancers and inspirational messages.

The program is open to all, without regard to religious affiliation.  There is no admission but boxes will be provided for monetary donations to help fund Operation Deep Freeze (ODF).  ODF is the QCIC sponsored program designed to help fund other organizations provide emergency shelter to those experiencing homeless during the winter.  Additionally, attendees are invited to bring commercially packed foods that will be given to the Prescott Community Cupboard.

A 30- minute fellowship time with light refreshments will be provided when the performances has been concluded.  Participate are encouraged to mingle afterwards and get acquainted with others.
