Free Speech Wins—Jared Taylor at ASU – David Stringer

In a victory for free speech, the publisher of American Renaissance and celebrated advocate of race realism, Jared Taylor, spoke without incident Friday night at Arizona’s largest public university. Mr.  Taylor spoke and took questions from an audience of 50-60 young people at Arizona State University’s Neeb Hall, while at least twice that number of black-clad and masked Antifa shouted anti-white slurs and denounced those in attendance as “fascists”. Thanks to barricades and a strong security presence, aside from their intimidating presence and loud speech, the protest was peaceful.

Reportedly, the university administration was under strong pressure to cancel the event.  To their credit and in a notable victory for academic freedom and campus free speech, the university did not back down. They held to their decision to respect the rights of a student group, College Republicans United, and provided the space and security for the event to take place. On Friday night, September 2nd, free speech was alive and well at ASU.

The event was sponsored by College Republicans United (CRU), a conservative student group supporting Trumpian themes of nationalism, populism, and immigration restrictions. They are a splinter group from the traditional ASU College Republicans who are aligned with the Republican establishment and ‘neo-conservative’ policies such as in-state tuition for DACAs and US support for Ukraine and Israel. The CRU is smaller in number, but they are highly energized student activists who are establishing chapters on college campuses across the country. A CRU student organization is currently in formation here in Prescott at Yavapai Community College. (Prescott Talks)

Mr. Taylor’s talk focused on the reality of race and racial differences or what is now termed ‘race realism’.  According to Mr. Taylor, racial classifications and racial differences are not social constructs, as claimed by contemporary Marxist academics, but are real and based on biological markers—physiology, body chemistry and DNA. Skin color is one marker, but among the least important.  Far more important are brain size,  gestation periods and maturation rates,  physical stamina, disease patterns, resistance to disease and the effectiveness of medications.

All of these things and many others vary to a significant measurable degree among the three major racial classifications—Asian, Caucasian, and Negro.  According to Mr. Taylor, pathologists can determine with ninety percent accuracy an individual’s racial ancestry simply by examining the bacteria in their mouth. The different races of mankind represent what are known in biology as sub species. They have many features in common but  can be as different as a brown bear from a polar bear.

Why is any of this important to the United States and the increasingly racially mixed countries of western Europe?  The answer is arguably the most important marker of racial difference—human intelligence or IQ. The scientific literature on human intelligence is extensive and highly consistent.  IQ tests given across the globe over many years and to many different population groups have a consistent pattern or “distribution”.  Whites have an average score of 100, with Asians a few points higher and Blacks with an average score of 85.  Hispanics are a highly diverse group and harder to classify. Some are White or near White while others are a mixture of indigenous and other peoples.

Mr. Taylor’s point is that because of racial differences, among the 13,000 school districts across the United States, in every classroom the racial performance distribution is the same. Academically, Asians are at the top, followed by Whites, with Hispanics somewhat lower and Blacks at the bottom.  Of course, these are averages and say nothing about the performance of individuals. But in a multi-racial country like the United States, Mr. Taylor argues it is unrealistic to assume that all racial groups will achieve at the same level or have equal outcomes in life.

Mr. Taylor makes the point that cognitively demanding work such as the STEM fields, typically requires an IQ of 125 or better to function successfully. These fields typically carry higher compensation and social status than less demanding work. Given the average IQ differences between the races,  Mr. Taylor calculates that it is 30 times more likely that a White or Asian will perform at this level than a Black. If that’s true, it calls into question the whole enterprise of trying to create a society of ‘equal outcomes’ or with social and economic equality across all racial groups.

Mr. Taylor acknowledges that these are hard truths. The United States was founded on the principle that “all men are created equal”. Of course, that statement referred to political equality and not literal equality of property or social station. Yet many Americans recoil at the discussion of racial differences. They denounce those who insist the discussion is necessary racists” or “elitists” or “haters”.

Jared Taylor’s response is to point out that part of being an adult is accepting the reality of one’s limitations. None of us are really the “smartest” or the  “strongest” or the “best looking” or the “most deserving” of success in any absolute sense.  Part of maturity is accepting that you can’t always be the “winner” or the best at any particular thing.

By arguing that all racial groups are exactly the same and that disparities in outcome are evidence of discrimination and unfairness, we do them and ourselves an enormous disservice. Mr. Taylor asks, in a county where Asians are now the highest income group, can it honestly be said that Whites have rigged the system against other racial groups?  White Americans now live in a country founded by their European ancestors where they are rapidly being displaced. According to the 2020 Census, all White children are now a racial minority in the United States. Antifa, Black Lives Matter, and other anti-White groups denounce America’s social and economic system as “systemically racist”.  And White Americans are openly defamed as racist oppressors.

On September 2, Jared Taylor brought his message of race realism to ASU. Some are listening.

  1. While interesting, it still boils down to the fact each of us in an individual and should be judged accordingly. As I recall Murray wrote a book on race and noted all persons fall somewhere along a bell shaped curve on Intelligence Quotient (I Q). Neither Murray or Taylor is a racist but rather realist.

  2. “…the university administration was under strong pressure to cancel the event.”

    Strong pressure from whom?

From Radical Left crybabies that throw temper tantrums when they don’t get their way.

From Radical Left academics who have no clue how to teach useful life skills to others.

From Radical Left Money Thieves who see “cancel culture” as a way to steal other people’s money.

From the pathetic mob of useless people whose entire lives revolve around AGREE WITH US OR YOU WILL BE DESTROYED!!!
