ERAU Student Gets a Surprise that Changes Her Pilot Career
Featured

02 August 2017

Mokulele Airlines embarked on a hiring project - and was amazed to receive over 130 applications. But one in particular stood out.

Swayne Martin, is a First Officer at Mokulele Airlines and a Certified Flight Instructor. On his website, SwayneMartin.com, Martin explained, "I’ve partnered with the management and hiring staff of Mokulele Airlines to present my YouTube subscribers a unique 10 day hiring opportunity to thank you guys for being some of the best, most engaged viewers I’ve ever had. By participating in this limited time application process, you’ll find yourself at the top of the hiring stack.”

That application opportunity closed at Midnight (HST), on July 14th, 2017.

Kristin Gibson, a Prescott Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) student took the opportunity to apply.

Martin said, "Out of the 130+ applications received for just a few pilot positions, one stood out to me and our team in particular. Kristin Gibson from Prescott, AZ mentioned that she worked two jobs as a full time college student to afford her start in aviation. That caught my attention, so I wanted to find out more. Throughout our conversation (which can be found in the video attached), I realized that this job opportunity wasn't just going to be a cool way for her to build flight time... It would literally alter the course of her career."

You can see the conversation between Martin and Gibson here:

But, Martin went even further to help Gibson.

He started a GoFundMe page to help her afford the expensive move to Hawaii.

"Let's help this well deserving pilot jumpstart her career. I've put in the first $100,” Martin wrote on the GoFundMe page he set up in her behalf

Any money raised above the goal will be used for flight training scholarships for new student pilots.
