This will be the first public Memorial Day ceremony at the Prescott National Cemetery since 2019. VA is eager to have the local community and media partners spread the word and attend.
The 2022 Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony will be held at the Prescott National Cemetery, 500 N. US Highway 89, in Prescott, at 11 am. The ceremony will last about an hour.
The event includes posting of the colors by American Legion Post #6, invocation by Chaplain Kermit Hunt, reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance, special music, a wreath presentation, a moment of silence, three volleys of rifle fire, and a rendering of Taps. The special guest speaker is Mayor Phil Goode.
Parking is available at the nearby Prescott VA Medical Center.
Located on 15.4 acres, the Prescott National Cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. The cemetery features an Unknown Soldiers Monument made of white marble rusticated to look like blocks with a centered cross on top.
The VA operates 155 national cemeteries and 34 soldiers’ lots and monument sites in 44 states and Puerto Rico. More than 5 million Americans, including Veterans of every war and conflict, are buried in VA cemeteries. Fulfilling President Lincoln’s call “to care for him who shall have borne the battle,” VA also provides headstones, markers or medallions for Veterans buried in state, territorial and tribal Veterans’ cemeteries or interred in private cemeteries.
Special Instructions: While this will be an outdoor event, all attendees, including media, are encouraged to adhere to CDC guidelines, wear masks and maintain physical distancing from other attendees to limit the transmission of COVID-19.
