About Us

Here at Prescott eNews, we think there's a lot going on in the Prescott quad-city area. And, yes, we know that bad news happens, but we also know that a lot more good news happens. So, we intend to tell lots of good news, while not ignoring the bad news.

Although there are some online news sites for the Prescott area, there aren't many that seem to take advantage of the medium of the internet. Here at Prescott eNews, we know the difference between putting a book or a newspaper online, and using the Internet to its full potential. And we think it's time that a quality news website makes its home in Prescott, Arizona.

How Old Are You?

Ssshhhh...! Don't tell anyone, but we launched our beta site in June, 2007. So, yeah, we're the new kid on the block. Well, at least for this particular site. But, our staff has been designing websites for nearly 10 years, and are also accomplished Photoshop digital artists, writers, photographers and design instructors. What all that means is that just because this particular site is new, it doesn't mean that we don't know what we're doing.

James Reavis, who called himself the Baron of Arizona, was the recent topic of conversation at the Sharlot Hall Museum. Shown here is the parlor in the Fremont House. Photo of Reavis from Wikipedia.
"Shade's not the thing a cactus is made for." This is a line from "The Tale of the Weary Eight," a poem by Sharlot Hall, that was read by Jody Drake at the beginning of the play.  This show was really cool. All the actors were great, and they all really knew about what they were saying. This is a really great idea, and a really great way to learn history. I think I really learned a lot because of this fun way of portraying history.

Kristina Velasco portrayed Miss Elizabeth Fremont, also called Lilly, who knew very much about the Peralta Land Grant, or the Barony of Arizona. The Peralta Land Grant encompassed everything from Phoenix to Silver City, New Mexico; the strip was about 80 miles wide and covered over 12 million acres. The man who laid claim on the Peralta Land Gralt was named James Addison Reavis, his wife was said to be Deloris Miguel Cordova Peralta. The Peralta Land Grant Scandal lasted from 1860-1890. Although James Reavis was very brilliant throughout the entire thing, he was convicted of land fraud and sent to prison in Santa Fe for three years.

This show was really great.  If you want to find out more you can go the archives at Sharlot Hall Museum, where there is a very great book about the Peralta Land Grant. The Sharlot Hall Museum archive is the best in Arizona. Jody Drake really directed and wrote this show well.
