How Old Are You?

Ssshhhh...! Don't tell anyone, but we launched our beta site in June, 2007. So, yeah, we're the new kid on the block. Well, at least for this particular site. But, our staff has been designing websites for nearly 10 years, and are also accomplished Photoshop digital artists, writers, photographers and design instructors. Taxpayers footing the bill
written by Hestor, August 16, 2008
If readers are following the Lockwood articles they'll see that she is definitely on a witch hunt. And the taxpayers are footing the bill.

First of all, your "cartoonist" needs to learn how to spell. It's not
"exspensively" - it is spelled "expensively" (no "s" after the "x").
This person is apparently not very well educated and hopefully doesn't
hold a job where that might be a handicap.

And, you as the editor need to do a better job of checking "facts" - if
you can't pay enough detail to editorial responsibilities like checking
the spelling on a "cartoon", how reliable is the rest of YOUR fact
checking? And, since when is a cartoon as "story"?

Secondly, your continual pounding at Georgene Lockwood's campaign
indicates that Carol Springer is worried about how the campaign is
going. She won't spend money on her re-election, but instead relies on
your type of so-called "reporting" smearing legitimate issues Lockwood
addresses that reflect poorly on Springer's performance. I think your
strategy is backfiring.

And one can only assume that Springer not only supports, but encourages
your slimy tactics (free for her, after all). She, someone in her
office or someone else working at the county offices have apparently
been providing you with information and documents - are these the type
of people that we want to invest with the public trust? Their view of
the line between proper and improper is too blurry to have any of them
represent us in our government.

Get it right...
written by Joseph, August 20, 2008
I find it ironic that Jane attacks the cartoon for spelling and the last sentence in her first paragraph says "...since when is a cartoon AS "story"". I also learned at a fairly young age to never start a sentence with the word "And", which Jane does 3 times in her post. The moral of the story is, make sure when you attack something or someone make sure you don't do the same thing you are complaining about. I am not singling out Jane on this, because many people who post things like she did actually do the exact same thing. In fact, I don't expect everything I write here to be 100% grammatically accurate. It happens, so get over yourself.

As for the issue of fact checking, which method of fact checking are you using Jane? What makes you think Springer hasn't spent money on her campaign? I guess all the signs around town and the mass political mailings are free now. You also imply staff workers are providing some sort of insider secret documents. Was this statement checked for the facts? Well, I happen to have a news flash for everyone. It's called a public information request of public documents. Anyone can request this public information as many times as they want as is clearly evidenced by Lockwood's constant and seemingly never ending search for some sort of smoking gun in public documents. I suggest you look up the Freedom of Information Act, which has actually been around since 1966, if you aren't familiar with it.

In closing, I think it is unfair to claim this news source is "slimy", "smearing legitimate issues" and doesn't do a thorough job of checking facts. The articles on this site appear to be well researched and include all of the facts that are available to the reporter at the time. My guess is Jane and others like her simply do not like the facts, choose to ignore them and instead attack the reporter, Springer and County Staff using a variety of buzz words implying there is a conspiracy without checking their facts. This is actually fairly typical of the Lockwood's campaign. Lay blame, try to scare people and don't confuse yourself with the facts no matter what.
