About Us

Here at Prescott eNews, we think there's a lot going on in the Prescott quad-city area. And, yes, we know that bad news happens, but we also know that a lot more good news happens. So, we intend to tell lots of good news, while not ignoring the bad news.

Although there are some online news sites for the Prescott area, there aren't many that seem to take advantage of the medium of the internet. Here at Prescott eNews, we know the difference between putting a book or a newspaper online, and using the Internet to its full potential. And we think it's time that a quality news website makes its home in Prescott, Arizona.

How Old Are You?

Ssshhhh...! Don't tell anyone, but we launched our beta site in June, 2007. So, yeah, we're the new kid on the block. Well, at least for this particular site. But, our staff has been designing websites for nearly 10 years, and are also accomplished Photoshop digital artists, writers, photographers and design instructors. What all that means is that just because this particular site is new, it doesn't mean that we don't know what we're doing.

Please use the contact form to send all comments and suggestions. We look forward to hearing from you.

nystedt2.jpgJohn Nystedt, Fish and Wildlife Biologist, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service , Arizona Ecological Services Field Office will talk about “Habitat Conservation Plans and Endangered Species of the Verde River” when the Citizens Water Advocacy Group meets on Saturday, June 14 from 10 AM to noon at the Granite Peak Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 882 Sunset in Prescott (two blocks behind True Value).

Nystedt will provide a basic overview of Habitat Conservation Plans (HCPs) and will answer questions such as: What is an HCP and what are some of its benefits? How is an HCP prepared? What is the definition of "take" under the Endangered Species Act? What is an Incidental Take Permit, why would someone want one, and how do you apply for one? He will also present information on threatened and endangered species of the Verde River and discuss past, present and potential future impacts on these species, specifically the impact of pumping from the Big Chino Aquifer, and why an HCP may be an important tool for addressing these impacts.

Nystedt worked for the Navajo Nation’s Department of Fish and Wildlife for 15 years before moving to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 2002. He consults with federal agencies to ensure compliance with the Endangered Species Act and works with private and tribal interests to promote conservation of threatened and endangered species. His geographic areas of responsibility include the Verde River and tribal lands in northern Arizona.
