Musician and long time Prescott resident Liz Story will be performing with other local artists in a benefit for Mountain Oak School called “Music for Wonder.” The funds raised at the concert will go towards endowing the arts curriculum at the school. Story is a solo pianist, and has been performing professionally for 20 years. She has recorded seven albums for Windham Hill, RCA and now DMI. The Chicago Tribune called her, “… arresting. Story displayed not only a graceful command of the keyboard but also a thoughtful improviser’s gift.” The show’s producer, Ines Vitols, says about Story, “She has performed all over the world to great acclaim. Every few years she performs a benefit locally. Liz loves Mountain Oak School, and one of her friends’ children attends there. She has seen the difference the school has made in the family’s life and wants to support the program.” The showcase promises to be something for the whole family, and will include music, theatre, circus arts and on-stage painting by local artist O. Allen Huddleston. Also performing at the benefit will be the Sedona Jazz on the Rocks Youth Jazz Band, directed by Prescott jazz pianist Matt Jackson . The band has previously performed at the Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington, D.C., and the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. In addition the show will feature singer/songwriter Aaron King, Vocal percussionist Cain Carroll, Revital Carroll, who is a classical East Indian dancer, Susan DeFreitas, and Navajo flute from Michael Goodluck. Vitols, a professional musician himself will also be performing. His daughter is a student at the school, and he is very supportive of the Waldorf Education inspired program. Taking on the job of producing the program dovetailed into the coursework he is currently doing through Landmark Education Self Expression and Leadership Program. Part of his curriculum is to create a community project, which is exactly what “Music for Wonder” turned into. He says, “There are a multiple of people in the community helping with this.” Aside from all the performing artists, he says, “Ian Russell, the artist and owner of Ian Russell Gallery of Fine Art in the Old Firehouse Plaza did the artwork for us.” Tickets can be purchased at the New Frontiers Marketplace or Pangaea Bakery.
