The Home Depot Float won the Grand Prize.Christmas Season started in earnest yesterday with the 26th Annual Christmas Parade. The theme was "Home for Christmas" and the chosen Grand Marshalls were returning Operation Iraqi Freedom Veterans from our community. One hundred and one entries traveled the parade route starting at Willis along Cortez, up to Goodwin Street, across to Montezuma and back down to Willis. Thousands of people lined the blocks to enjoy the parade and the gorgeous sunny weather. In keeping with the Home for Christmas theme, the Parade's Grand Prize winner from Home Depot featured a gigantic 'Gingerbread' house, festively decorated with lollipops and all the trimmings and surrounded by familiar inflatable figures such as Winnie the Pooh and Snoopy. Many other entries had Christmas trees, Santa hats, piles of packages and even children dressed up like Christmas cookies! It was terrific to hear the school marching bands - there were five 'official' bands, from Mile High Middle School, Granite Mountain Middle School, Humboldt Middle School Bearcat Band, Catalina Foothills High School and Prescott High School. In addition, several schools such as Franklin Phonetic School brought their bands, and Primavera School marched while their recorders. Usually when you think of parades in Prescott, you think of lots of horses, but that's for the 4th of July Parade. In yesterday's parade, the only horses to be seen were of the miniature variety and some Shetland ponies - not much bigger than some of the large dogs in the parade. And speaking of dogs, there were many of those - from the Humane Society, the Kennel Club K-9 Drill Team, Doggie Dude Ranch and more. Here's the list of winners:
