
Kite Day
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is proud to offer Kite Day at the Civic Center! Join us from 10:00am to Noon on Saturday, May 10 for this fun and TOTALLY FREE family activity! Build your own kite and increase your chances to win the division of your choice. Competition begins promptly at 10:30am.
Kite Day will include kite flying, games and a great opportunity to win a ribbon in the kite flying competition! Contests will include the fastest kite in the air competition, the largest kite, smallest kite, highest kite in the sky, the most colorful kite, the kite with the longest tail, the kite with the best design, the most unusual kite, the best homemade kite, and the most kites flown on a single string.
Ribbons will be awarded for all of the winners in both the 9 and under and 10 to 14 age categories.

March Tennis Camp
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering a “Spring Break” Tennis Camp at the Bradshaw Mountain High School west campus.
Ken Jackson, a USPTA professional, will be the Camp Director. Ken’s goal is, “even if you have never held a racquet before, you will learn to play tennis.”
Dates: March 17, 18, 19, 20 & 21.
Time: 11:00am to 1:00pm
Cost: $25 for 10 hours of instruction.
The camp will include a tournament on the last day of camp! Camp is for kids 6-17 years of age! The registration deadline is March 10, 2008.

Hula Class
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering a Hula Class in Civic Center Room 331. Learn Hawaiian language, culture, and values and the dances of Hawaii with instructor Kehau Chrisman. Kehau is a native Hawaiian who teaches both modern and traditional hula.
Students may sign up separately for each dance class that is offered. Class is scheduled for April 5, 2008. Class will take place from10:00am to 2:00pm. Cost: $40.

Eye on the Flora Hikers Workshop
Expand your hiking horizons and understanding of Arizona’s flora in this hands-on workshop on Thursday, April 17 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in community room 331 at the Civic Center. FREE! This class is open to the first 30 participants.
Using standard computer software, some 400 plants from popular recreation areas will be described with links to several hundred images. Specimens from across our region will be tested in a hands-on environment to give you practical experience in working with this new tool. Additionally, we will survey the State’s most notable hiking destinations and the native plants that you’ll encounter along the trail.

Beginning Chinese Conversation
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering a Beginning Chinese Conversation class slated to begin May 1, 2008. A series of three sessions will take place on Thursdays from 7:00pm to 8:00pm at the Civic Center in room 406 as scheduled:
- Session I: May 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29.
- Session II: June 5, 12, 19, 26, and July 3;
- Session III: July 10, 17, 24, 31, and August 7, 2008.
Cost: $25 per person, per session.
The class will provide helpful/useful conversational dialogue for anyone traveling to China, doing business in China, or simply wishing to learn more about the Chinese language, customs and culture. Classes will be taught by instructor Lei Kong.
Registration deadlines for the three sessions are April 24, May 29, and July 31, 2008, respectively. Registration will be limited to 10 participants for each session.

Sample of French
Would you like to know a little more about the French language and French customs? The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering an introductory French class to aspiring students. Nadia Clark, a native of France, will instruct a five- week program for beginners and there is an advanced class as well. The one hour beginner level classes are scheduled for Thursday evenings at the Bradshaw Mountain High School east campus in room 401 starting February 21, 28, March 6, 13 & 27 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
The French II class (advanced) will be offered from 7:15pm to 8:15pm on the same dates. The cost for a five-week program is $30.

Beginning Crochet
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to introduce an instructional, beginning crochet program at a cost of $45. No extra equipment or costs! Participants will learn to read a pattern and crochet a beginning project.

Granville Geckos’ “Mud Puppies”
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to offer “Mud Puppies,” a special beginning level pottery program for kids 6 to 12 years of age. Elementary students will learn the techniques of clay art, including wheel throwing, sculpture, preparation, glazing and kiln firing. All supplies included!
Class will meet on Mondays, March 10, 24 and 31. Cost: $45 for three classes! Classes will be held at Granville Elementary School from 3:30pm to 4:30pm in Kindergarten room 166.

Basketball Hoops Instruction
Looking to improve your hoops skills this summer and work on your game? Have some time on Wednesday afternoons? Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation is offering Basketball Hoops Instruction! This class is free!
Hoops Instructor Roy Jenkins has coached high school basketball, run basketball camps and conducted a basketball “Shooting Academy”. Take advantage of this program to learn the fundamentals and work on the key aspects of the game. This workshop will be offered June 4, 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 at the Bradshaw Mountain High School east campus gymnasium.
Kids 7 to 9 years olds are scheduled from 12:30pm to 1:45pm and basketball players 10 to 14 will be working out from 1:45pm to 3:00pm.

Waterdogs
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering “Waterdogs,” an instructional watercolor class for beginners! “Waterdogs” is ideal for aspiring artists 6 to 12 years of age.
This session will take place on Thursdays, March 13, 20 & 27 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm in community room 331 at the Civic Center. Cost: $45. The registration deadline is March 6, 2008.
In this class, students will be given watercolor paper and play sets to use at home and to use in class. At the end of the class, there will be an ‘Art Exhibit’ showcasing the completed class projects.

Line Dance Lessons
The Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation Department is proud to announce a new Line Dancing class that will take place at the Bradshaw Mountain High School east camps - 6411 North Robert Road. This class is targeted for ages 18 and above. There will be eight-class meeting per session instructed for 90 minutes each on Tuesday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm scheduled for March 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, May 6 & 13. The cost is $32 for singles and a discounted rate of $50 for couples. The registration deadline is March 18, 2008.
Line Dance is a formation dance class that has the group performing the same dance moves in lines or rows. Leather soled shoes (or smooth equivalent) are recommended for dancing and performing turns.

Monday Guitar
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering guitar lessons at the Prescott Valley Civic Center. The lessons are designed to accommodate skill levels for any and all ages! Students will be able to pursue a variety of styles on the guitar with instructor Pete West, whose musical experience includes performing with his band at venues such as the Roxy and Whiskey a Go Go in Hollywood.
A set of four (4) lessons are set for Monday evenings in April. Instruction will be in room 406 at the Civic Center between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. (1 hour scheduled). Classes will take place April 7, 14, 21, and 28. Cost is $75.

Wednesday Guitar
A set of four (4) lessons for the April session are scheduled for Wednesday evenings in Room 406 between 5:00pm and 8:00pm (1 hour scheduled/arranged) on April 9, 16, 23 & 30 Cost is $75.00 for the four week session. Registration deadline: April 2, 2008.

Stroller Strides
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is pleased to offer a new class - Stroller Strides. Stroller Strides is a total fitness program for moms. Classes offer a stroller workout that combines power-walking and intervals of body-toning using the stroller, the environment and exercise tubing. It’s a great way to get into shape, meet other new moms and have fun with your baby!
Participants will meet close to the grass outside the first floor entrance of the Civic Center for these Tuesday and Thursday workouts. Class time is scheduled from 10:30am to 11:30am. Class dates are April 1, 3, 8, 10, 15 & 17. The cost is $40 for the six scheduled classes in April.
All equipment will be provided by the instructor with the exception of your stroller! Class size minimum: 5 and maximum: 20. Registration deadline: March 21, 2008.

Designing Your Home
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering Designing Your Home. Learn about color schemes and how to choose the right color and shades for your home. Learn creative techniques to make a small room appear larger using paint as an architectural element. The instructor lecture will include wall glazing, frottage, ‘Venetian Plaster’ and decorative painting. All students will be given a color swatch and paint compass.
The class will be instructed at the Civic Center in Community Room 331 Saturday, March 22 from 12:30pm to 3:30pm at a cost of $45. All supplies are included! The registration deadline is March 14.

Spanish
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department offers an introductory Spanish class designed for students wishing to gain knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and verbs! This five-week class is scheduled for Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm at the Civic Center in room 222. The cost is $30.
Classes will take place April 3, 10, 17, 24 and May 1. Students will learn conversational phrases and verb usage including participating in written and oral drills. Time will be set aside to answer questions at the end of each class.

Moving Gracefully Through Life’s Transitions
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is inviting the Quad-City area to take advantage of learning how to deal with life’s changes (marriage, parenthood, career change, relocation, etc.) gracefully and easily. This class utilizes an adaptation of William Bridges’ phases of transition and each phase will use movement, creative play and the labyrinth to discover how to navigate each phase.

Chess
The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering a FREE chess program at the Prescott Valley Civic Center in Community Room 331 on Monday evenings from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Players of any age or level of experience are welcome! Beginners or tournament players will have a great time learning new strategies or passing on their knowledge to others. Volunteer instructors will be on hand to help new players. Come to play, learn, or just have fun!

The Town of Prescott Valley Parks & Recreation Department is offering “Adult Waterdogs” for the aspiring artist wishing to learn new and innovative techniques in watercolors. Adult Waterdogs is scheduled for Fridays in April on the 11, 18 & 25 from 10:00am to 11:15am in room 406 at the Civic Center. Cost: $45. Registration deadline: April 4, 2008.
Students will learn warm vs. cool colors, texture, color mixing and improve their skills by utilizing painting exercises designed by instructor Danielle Wanner. There will be an ‘Art Exhibit’ showcasing the completion of class projects.
