Listen to Natalie describe her gallery and the work of the other artists. Get QuickTime for audio and video here. Natalie Krol's monumental art can be found as far away as Japan, where her sculpture called "Friendship's Tie" represents Culver City to their "sister city" of Kaizuka. It's also likely that you have driven by "Silver Tornado," a bucking bull in front of Yavapai Regional Medical Center. But now, this world-renowned artist and sculptress has opened Krol Gallery, in Prescott, and wants to invite the residents to come for an Open House. One had better not try to define Krol in any particular style, because her limits are a lot larger than monumental sculptures which are bigger than life. Whimsical at heart, she loves to create pieces that depict life and family and the charming grace of children. So, you'll find her work encompasses everything from jewelry, to handmade books, to crystals floating in the air, to maternity t-shirts. And of course, sculpture. Not only does Krol love to create art, she recognizes beauty in the artistic endeavors of other artisans. Displayed in Krol Gallery are the works of seven other specially-selected artists, each bringing their own perspective of life to the artform of their choice. If there are any comic book fans out there, Bret Blevins art is a must-see (and buy!). Winner of two Emmy awards for storyboard contributions, Blevins began his career illustrating comic books in 1981. Original pieces drawn in India Ink depict the likes of X-Men, the Hulk and Batman, to name a few. Seeing Blevins work in person makes one wonder if maybe these superheroes aren't real after all. Bonnie Casey obviously loves color, because her canvases are splashing with it. Casey offers gorgeous landscapes of high desert colors that somehow seem enhanced by a serenity seldom noticed in our busy world. One might not expect that a medical illustrator could produce such exquisite still lifes, but that's exactly what Michael Norvial does. Krol Gallery carries several pieces from Norvial that look nothing like something found in a medical textbook! Wonderful still-lifes, bright, intense colors and a feel of French impressionism. Krol Gallery also carries pieces by local artists Steve Mason, Alice Perkins, Stephen Smith and David Wiley. Flowing with color and texture and energy, much of the art is wearable and touchable - some is even sittable! - inspiring the artistic soul in us all. If you haven't heard of the Krol Gallery, it might be because it's not exactly in the heart of downtown Prescott. You'll find it nestled in at the Commerce Center of Prescott Lakes, practically on the corner of Willow Lake Road and Prescott Lakes Parkway. Seldom when you visit an art gallery, do you actually meet the artists themselves. But, at this Open House you will have a wonderful opportunity to do just that, with a chance to chat and put a face to the signatures you see on the canvases and sculptures. By the way, it's not just the Krol Gallery holding an Open House - three other businesses are joining the fun, too: Avenue's Hair Design, the Scrapbook Den and the Royal Hawaiian Coffee & Wine Company are also opening their doors to get acquainted with folks wanting to venture a little off the beaten path. The Open House event will be held on the evening of Saturday, August 4, from 7-9 pm. Refreshments will be provided. Note - Natalie Krol will be at the Courthouse square with a miniature pony and cart, handing out postcards and invitations to the Open House event. Trot on down, Wednesday, August 1, at 10:30 in the morning to say hello to Krol and get more information about her art and her gallery! Update: Natalie and a charming young princess with her miniature horse, handing out invitations on Wednesday morning, inviting everyone to come to Krol Gallery for the Open House on Saturday night.
